Week Two: Posture of Gratitude
Jenna Voight
Mental Posture
When you drop a rock into a lake what happens? It ripples. That same th by happens with one positive thought. One good thought cultivated more positive thoughts. The same thing happens when we think about God. If we think about God once, you are more likely to think of him again.
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18
No matter what bad things happen in life, God always has a plan for us. We should be grateful to know that we have a future, and that is a future in Christ. No matter how hard life is, we should be grateful that we have a loving God that is always here for us. Even when we are having a bad day, even just having one positive thought can change your day. Thank God at all times and see your life change dramatically
This week I challenge you to intentionally think about God. Set aside time for him. As you spend more time with God, see what happens. How does spending time with God affect your gratitude. Second, start everyday with gratitude. Your day will be dramatically different if you start it off with a grateful heart. Lastly, thank God everyday for this beautiful life.

Heart Posture of Gratitude
Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
This is one of my favorite gratitude verses, because it talks about praising God and being grateful in EVERY situation. Not just the mountain top highs, but also in the valleys. This comes from a heart posture of full reliance on God. This is WAY easier said than done. It is a lot easier to be grateful when things are going your way. I find though, that no matter what I am going through, finding things to be grateful for in these moments makes me feel better about the situation I am in. It shows that God is still showing up and working even when it feels like He isn’t. Putting your heart fully in God, and trusting Him in every situation makes it easier to have a heart of gratitude for everything.
I think it is also important to note, not only should we be praising God for the good things even in the valley, but also praise Him for whatever valley we are going through. No matter how difficult the situation is, God is taking you through it for a reason and preparing you for something better!
When I was asked to write this post, the first thing I thought of was the song Gratitude by Brandon Lake. My favorite part is the chorus that talks about all I have is a hallelujah so I will keep praising and even though it isn’t much, it’s all we have to give to the King of kings. If you haven’t heard it, go give it a listen and hopefully it brings you some encouragement this week!
