God Is… Merciful

God Is… Merciful

God is merciful and thank goodness He is! Mercy is defined as not getting what we do deserve. Whether we realize it or not, we all need God’s mercy. Paul tells us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). He also tells us that “the wages of sin is death” (Roman’s 6:23). We have ALL earned and deserve death because we ALL have sinned.

But God sent His one and only Son, Jesus, to die on the cross. In doing so, Jesus paid the debt we owe (our lives), bore the penalty we deserve (death), and gave us the free gift of eternal life through Himself alone. Jesus displayed His great love for us in that He didn’t want to go through death on a cross but “for the joy set before Him endured the cross” (Hebrews 12:2). He considered it joy that you would one day be able to have a relationship with Him and said, “Yes, you’re worth it.”

This week, take a few moments each day to dwell on all that Jesus went through so that you could have a relationship with Him. Praise Him for the mercy He gives. Thank Him for the mercy you’ve received. Don’t let this pass you by this week.
