Love is.. not dishonoring, not self seeking, not easily angered, and keeps no records of wrongs
In our fourth week of our Love Is series, we discuss how love does not dishonor others. Let’s focus on the basic premise of dishonor. Dishonor is a desire of the flesh. Dishonor can not only keep us from growing in our relationship with the Lord, but also prevent growth with friends and even ourselves.
So what does dishonor even look like? Dishonor can look like gossiping, intentionally bringing somebody down, lying, etc. These are traps that we can fall into every single day if we aren’t constantly checking ourselves as Christ followers. Don’t put yourself in situations where you might dishonor others, the Lord, or even yourselves. This may involve pruning areas of your life that you don’t want to. Things like changing who you pick to be your friends, cutting certain habits you’ve formed, or finding new TV shows to watch and new music to listen to.
Although our love may not be perfect, we can always lean back and understand that Christ’s love continues to be perfect, abounding every day, no matter the circumstance. We live to love the Lord and to grow a relationship with him every day. If dishonor consistently exists in our lives, it continues to get harder to truly love one another.
Love does not dishonor others.
Have an awesome week everyone! Remember to take time to rest in the word of the Lord this week!
1 Corinthians 13:4-6: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
