Love is.. always persevering and it never fails

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…

1 Corinthians 13:7-8a

The word perseveres comes to mean there is persistence or endurance in love, even in the hardest, most challenging times. Love simply lasts. The love talked about in 1 Corinthians is not a love that fades over time because it is referring to Godly love.

Jesus modeled this love when he took up the cross, when he was on that cross and in that tomb that love never left, but was persistent and lasted.

“Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.” John 13:1

“Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfected of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2

I read something during my studies that specifically stood out to me and it said “Love is rock-solid, intent on benefitting the one loved, regardless of the cost.” That reminded me of what my FCA coach once said in high school, “Love is the sacrificial acts for the benefit of another person.” To me that had the meaning of Jesus Christ, a love that truly never once has failed, and has persevered through all darkness. To us the first definition of love that we think of is Christ. This is how I went to end our Love is series, by reciting the characteristics of love, or better yet… God’s love.

”Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.“
