God is… Wrathful

God is.. Wrathful

This week we are looking at an aspect of who God is, covering the wrath of God. This may sound somewhat intimidating, but it is very important to understand! Let’s take a look.

When you think of wrath, you probably think of an angry outburst of emotions in a loss of control. To humans, that is exactly right. But God’s wrath is much different. While God’s wrath is against sin and evil, human wrath causes sin and evil. He never loses control, it is always carefully matriculated to serve justice where it is due. We are not to respond to God’s wrath with terror, but rather respect of His power.

Some examples of God’s wrath shown throughout the Bible are: The Great Flood, The City of Sodom, and the Defeat of the Egyptians. These were all in response to great sin caused by humans. However, it is important to note that although we incited God’s wrath, He gives us grace also. Our God is not some vengeful God that seeks to punish and destroy. He is a God of justice and mercy. We must look at his power in awe and respect.

Take time today to thank God for showing His continual mercy to us. For we are deserving of His wrath every day, but His outstanding love has sent Jesus to take that wrath for us. It is by grace that we have been saved!

Thanks for taking time to read today, SheBrews fam. See you next week!
